I am sure you have heard this before, “it takes a village to raise a child”. Well building your village can start early on, even before baby joins you earth side. Babies like us are all different, some are easy going, some are less, some are demanding, some are needy, some are busy, some are quiet, some are a mix of all these. Just keep in mind all is normal and there is nothing wrong with baby or with you, it is a matter of getting to know each other. Our society has made it so that it is essential we get out early, mom and baby, we are too busy it seems to just take it one step at a time. We as mothers and dads are expected to be super heroes, You baby is here now, so let’s go, let’s get with it, time to move on and keep busy, busy, busy, busy. It’s not that simple, you have gone through the biggest change in your life, whether it be a first baby, or a seventh, there is a big support system that needs to be there for you.Don’t be shy or embarrassed to ask for help, in whatever way you feel you need it most. Friends and family want to visit, that’s great, make sure you ask them to bring over some freezer meals and snacks, or swing by the market and pick up some fresh produce for you. When they are visiting, they can help fold the laundry, watch the baby so you can have a shower, change the beds, clean up a bit, do some dishes.Reach out to the community and trade help. The most important thing to do is to be one with your new baby, however long it takes, spend your time at home in your space, getting to know your baby, watching baby, they are fascinating and those moments will fly by, before you know it, baby will be all grown up and you will wonder what happened.Cherish each and every instant. Plan your birth and plan your life with new baby, a baby is real with very specific needs, and you are a new real Mom with very specific needs too, and dad you are a real dad and you also have specific needs, create your village from the very beginning of pregnancy, you won’t be sorry.
